About

With a motive to provide a common platform for technical activities related to environment preservation, we have launched EnvoTech Club. The EnvoTech club initiated by the Department of Civil Engineering, Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda is purely an honorary group activity of students aimed at practicing energy conservation and environment protection through technical projects. This gives a platform for the members to acquire process and share knowledge on the subject. The main objective of this EnvoTech Club is to drive home the message of environmentalism in the minds of students, by planning and organizing regular activities. The club focuses on: Solid waste disposal, Help in civic activities, Help in pollution control, Tree plantation, Create awareness of the conservation of the land and wetness, Seminars, Lectures etc. OBJECTIVES 1. To create environmental awareness and empowerment among the youth of CCE 2. To upgrade the technical knowledge in various treatment processes 3. To encourage active environment stewardship 4. To provide opportunity to learn and work as a team

EcoAware

Student Master Program

The Eco Aware, Student Master Programme, was held at Holygrace Academy, Mala on 26th October 2023 at 10 am. This event aimed to provide environmental awareness and education to 8th-grade students, promoting an understanding of critical environmental issues and fostering a sense of responsibility for a sustainable future. The session was delivered by S5 Civil students under the guidance of faculty coordinators Ms. Vinitha Sharon and Ms. Shicy N S and student coordinators Sandra Shaji (S5 CE) and C S Sivapriya (S5 CE) The students addressed the participants about the relevance of the Civil Engineering and awareness about different type of pollutions.

Solid Waste Management Unit

Installation of solid waste management unit at campus

Envo-Tech club in association with the Mechanical Engineering department installed a solid waste management unit at our college near the automobile lab. The unit was installed on Oct 18 2023, Wednesday at 4pm. The unit was established through the hard work of both S3 ME students and EnvoTech members (S5 CE). Construction of this unit was done under the supervision of both Geo Sir and Joy sir (Technical staff, CE &ME departments).

MODEL MAKING COMPETITION

Water Treatment Plant

Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” -H. Auden. As a part of world water day Envotech club(department of Civil Engineering) conducted a model making competition based on water treatment The contest planning and preparations began several days prior to the scheduled date of the programme. Model making competition was conducted on the 22nd March 2023 at 11am Judgmental was held at civil workshop lab and judgement panel consist of Faculties of Civil Engineering department along with Vice principal VD John sir . Event was coordinated by Asst.prof Vinitha Sharon and Asst.prof Shicy NS Like any other competition the only one objective is to conduct a fair contest that would provide a reliable idea to the participants about importance of water treatment and to provide awareness about water pollution.

Industrial visit to Water Treatment Plant, Irinjalakuda

Industrial Visit

Department of Civil Engineering conducted an industrial visit to Water treatment plant, Irinjalakuda on 1st March 2023 for s6 CE students. It was accompanied by the faculty members Ms. Vinitha Sharon, Dr. Krishnapriya M. G. and Ms. Riya Joseph. The officials Jestin M L and Shahul Hammed shared the details of water treatment plant. The source of the plant is Karuvanur River. The capacity of the plant is 120lpcd. The units are intake well, pump, storage reservoir, sump, distribution units etc. It has two augmentation filters. The details of different treatment steps such as aeration, coagulation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection was explained in the session. The first step, aeration process is done for the removal of gases. Then, coagulation is done by adding alum and quick lime. It is allowed to sediment for 3hrs, 85% pollutants is removed in this step. Then the water is passed through the filter bed which consists of three layers containing sand and pebbles.15% removal will be done in filter bed, then the water is conveyed for disinfection process using liquid chlorine.

SCHOOL INTERACTION SESSION

An Environmental Awareness Session

Pollution is one of the biggest environmental challenges we face today. It has a significant impact on our planet, including on the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the health of our ecosystems. It is essential that we increase our awareness of pollution to create a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations. EnvoTech Club, Department of Civil Engineering conducted a School Interactive session at National Higher Secondary school, Irinjalakuda on “Relevance of Civil Engineering and Environmental Awareness” on 5th January 2023 . The session was conducted by S3 CE students. The students addressed the participants about the relevance of the Civil Engineering and awareness about different type of pollutions. The solutions for different type of pollution were discussed in that session. Questions were asked by the participants and discussed at the end of the session.

On Oct 19th 2022, EnvoTech club, Dept.of Civil Engineering organized a Session about “Environmental conservation”. The session was led by Mr Saseendrababu , Social worker. The session began with a welcome address by Anlie Mariya Jaison (S7CE). The speaker addressed the students about importance of environmental conservation in present era. He covered the topics regarding CO2 reduction, rise of water table, deforestation etc. His main objective was to spread awareness about environmental conservation for younger generation.

A GIST ON SMOG EATING CONCRETE

Technical Talk

The Institution of Engineers (India) Students' Chapter and EnvoTech Club, Department of Civil Engineering organized a technical talk which dealt with the topic "A GIST ON SMOG EATING CONCRETE", for the students of S3 and S7. Session was delivered by Mr. Vilas Sankar K. P., Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Christ College of Engineering. The speaker addressed the participants about the relevance of the Sustainable Engineering. The topic of discussion was to solve the ever-increasing pollution problem in today’s world, a sustainable solution indeed which includes environmental protection, as well as social and economic equity. Proposed solution was usage of titanium dioxide-blended concrete. The material has similar structural properties to normal concrete at the same time because of the titanium dioxide, can remove pollutants from the air by decomposing them into harmless compounds. Discussed about the Titanium Dioxide, it's reaction with polutants, experimental investigation and test results.

QUIZ: Ground Water: making the invisible visible

Quiz Competition

Competitions encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and help them to keep themselves updated with the latest developments in the field of science, sports, literature, music etc. It also provides a fantastic platform for students to come together and challenge themselves in terms of their general knowledge, creative thinking and teamwork skills. Keeping this in mind the EnvoTech Club, Department of Civil Engineering, Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda conducted an online quiz on 22 of March 2022, World Water Day, at 10 am through google forms. The platform was open to all the students and faculty members of CCE. Ms. Vinitha Sharon, Faculty in charge and Sandra Shaji (S1CE), student in charge coordinated the event.

VERTICAL GARDEN

VERTICAL GARDEN at our campus

Rejoiced to inform that, after several days of careful planning and relentless toil, the EnvoTech Club and the Department of Civil Engineering at Christ College of Engineering, have successfully placed a flourishing Vertical Garden in our college campus on 30/09/2021. The entire frame of the garden, standing 3 metres tall and spanning 3.8 metres wide, as well as all the materials used are completely eco-friendly and recyclable. It is truly rewarding to share that the whole process of framing, cutting, drilling and chiseling were done solely by the members of EnvoTech club with the unrelenting support of faculty coordinator Ms. Vinitha Sharon. The garden now houses a total of 14 varieties of plants such as Aglaonema, green and pink Syngoniums, Rio, Wandering jew, and other varieties of spiderwort and devil's ivy. This garden would not have bloomed without the numerous hands behind. Here is the team!

Quizzard was conducted on 5th of June, 2021 at 10am via Google meet. The team turned to the aid of an online application called Kahoot, which provides scores based on accuracy of the player and time taken to respond. A total of 180 registrations were received from more than 10 schools and 12 colleges from 29th of May, 8 PM to the 3rd of June, 8 PM

Assessment of Incinerability of Municipal Solid Waste

WEBINAR

One of the prime motive of the EnvoTech club is to enhance the technical knowledge of the students which would equip them with the requisites needed to solve the problems faced by the environment. A webinar on "Assessment of Incinerability of Municipal Solid Waste" was conducted on 15th of May 2021 via Google Meet. The resource person invited for the session was Dr. Roshni Mary Sebastian Postdoctoral fellow, University of Alberta, Canada. The major takeaways intended from the session was a general idea regarding the existing treatment of Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW), their drawbacks, and what the future holds for waste management. The attendees included a strapping count of 110 including students, teachers and resource people from outside college as well from other parts of the country.

Quiz Competition

This year’s Earth Day, celebrated on 22nd of April, to remind the students as well as the public, the danger being faced by our planet and the measures to put down the devastating calamities undergoing in it. The competition was organized by the Envotech Club of Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda to challenge the insight of the participants with a Quiz solely based on Earth. The quiz competition was conducted online with great enthusiasm and zest. The event was open to all the students & staffs of Christ College of Engineering and from other colleges with free registration.

DISASTER RISK MITIGATION

Idea pitching competition

To commemorate World Disaster Management day, EnvoTech club together with the Department of Civil Engineering, Christ College of Engineering, organized an intercollegiate idea pitching contest on 17th of October,2020. The topic for the idea pitching was Disaster Risk Mitigation and the contest specifically focused on ideas to mitigate risks due to earthquake, landslide and flood. The contest consisted of two phases: a preliminary phase and a final phase, of which the latter was conducted live on google meet.

ENGINEER’S DAY EVENT

This year’s Engineer’s day, celebrated on 15th of September,2020, to honour the contribution of one of the greatest pioneer of our nation and Bharat Ratna awardee Mokshakundam Viswesaraya, was celebrated online with great zest and passion, by the students and teachers alike of Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda. The competitions which were jointly organised by the EnvoTech Club and RACE, CCE induced an online scavenger hunt titled “THE HUNT” and a poster selfie contest with cash prizes.

The first expert e-talk organized by the Envo Tech Club, department of Civil Engineering on “ Advanced Oxidation Processes for Emerging Contaminants” by Dr. M. S. Priyanka, Former Research Scholar, NIT Calicut was successfully conducted on 1st of August 2020 at 3:00pm via Google Meet, under the guidance of faculty coordinators Mrs. Vinitha Sharon and Mr. Prabasankar V. P. The meeting which was conducted online due to pandemic novel corona, had a total of 191 attendees including department personalities from different parts of the country.

The inaugural ceremony of the new found Envo Tech Club, which was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda, on 13th of July, 2020, Monday at 10.00 am. Inauguration was done by the honorable chief guest Prof. Jai M. Paul, MACE, Kothamangalam. The ceremony which was held online via Google meet, due to the pandemic novel corona, was hosted by faculty coordinators Ms. Vinitha Sharon & Mr. Prabhasankar V. P. with a total of 60 attendees including guests and staff members.
